Franklin Regional Medical Center participates in annual Teddy Bear Clinic

Louisburg, N.C. – The nurses at Franklin Regional Medical Center held their annual Teddy Bear Clinic at Bunn Elementary School on Thursday, April 29.

Donna Perry, RN and other nurses from various departments within Franklin Regional began this program several years ago to educate children about summer safety and visits to the emergency department.  This premise reduces fear and anxiety for children, which enables the medical staff to diagnose the child’s presenting problem more quickly.  Also, Marty Cooney, director of infection control and employee health, showed students the proper steps to hand washing.

“It is such a fun event to participate in every year,” said Perry.  “We feel it is important to get out into the local community and educate children, in order to prevent injuries before they happen.  Prevention and education are key in the healthcare field.”

All kindergarten students at Bunn Elementary had the opportunity to bring in their injured or sick stuffed animals for treatment by a trained professional.   The kindergartners also learned summer safety tips such as remembering to wear your helmet when riding a bike or scooter and also pool safety.
